PARTNERSHIPS

ENVIRONMENTAL
PARTNERSHIPS

We are committed to utilising supply chain partners that have established environmental programs such as Cradle to Cradle initiatives, Net Zero objectives and sustainability policies.

We go as far as recycling legacy lighting responsibly via our major projects and turnkey services. This ensures that not only the lighting products we supply are provided in a sustainable manner as well as what we are replacing is carefully considered for greater future environmental outcomes.

Design

Design

Our LED Lighting products are designed to consume considerably lower volumes of electricity than typical fluorescent, halogen or mercury vapour lighting systems, thus reducing our CO2 emissions.

Our LED products are also designed to have significantly longer lifetimes, which reduces the frequency that they must be replaced; thus minimising future waste. Additionally, LED products are free from the harmful chemicals reducing our environmental footprint concerning chemical waste, and on a like for like basis consume far less energy to produce.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing

Our Australian made products are manufactured with high energy efficiency and low usage. Utilising servo electric high precision machinery enables significantly less energy consumption during operation, resulting in lower energy costs and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. This energy efficiency also leads to less heat generation, reducing the need for cooling systems and further lowering energy consumption.

This machinery also offers improved precision and accuracy, resulting in less material waste and scrap, reducing the use of raw material. Solar energy and nitrogen gas for laser cutting is also generated on-site to further offset our energy requirements. All paintline sheetmetal cleaning systems recycle solutions on-site and no waste is discarded into the sewage systems.

packaging
& Delivery

packaging & Delivery

We are currently working on developing modular packaging solutions that can integrate any packaging received from our suppliers into our own, in order to minimise waste and avoid repacking.

Modular packaging solutions are a sustainable approach to packaging that offers several environmental benefits. By incorporating suppliers’ packaging, we can utilise resources more efficiently, reduce waste, and minimise the need for repacking. This approach can lead to a significant reduction in the use of materials and the carbon footprint associated with packaging production and disposal.

Currently our major project and roll outs revert to bulk packaging strategies aimed at significantly reducing large volumes of unnecessary packaging and alleviates the need for contractors and installers to mitigate on-site waste disposal and their associated costs.

Delivery of our products are arranged in bulk where possible to reduce packaging waste, contributing to our transport emission control practices enabling delivery of materials and products to customers in a manner that minimises the impact of vehicles.

Accreditations
& certifications

Accreditations &
certifications

Our accreditations demonstrate our commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency, and responsible environmental practices, resulting in reduced environmental impact and improved resource efficiency. Specifically, the Environmental Management System ISO 14001:2015 certification ensures our environmental impact is effectively managed, while the Energy Saving Scheme (ESS) in New South Wales and Victorian Energy Upgrades promote energy-efficient practices and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Overall, these accreditations help us operate more sustainably, reduce our carbon footprint, and contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future.

recycling

recycling

At our installation sites, we make sure to recycle all decommissioned lights and materials such as carton and plastic packaging, metals and redundant lighting technologies. Recycling legacy lighting is not a straightforward process due to the presence of hazardous substances, such as mercury namely, in commercially produced fluorescent lamps. When not handled correctly, mercury can contaminate soil and water and become a health hazard. As such, we entrust the handling of this task to reputable and registered companies to ensure they don’t contribute to Australia’s largest source of mercury going into landfills.

We are committed to doing our part to support the United Nation’s Sustainable Development goals (SDG’s) aimed at ending poverty, protecting the planet and for peace & prosperity to all people.

We seek to add value to the key goals that relate directly to our industry and business activities.

What goals are Lowa Lighting working towards and how are we starting to reach them?

Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all

Lowa Lighting’s Retrofit Energy Services achieve this goal by reducing energy consumption, increasing energy efficiency, saving costs, improving safety and security, creating new jobs and supporting sustainable economic growth and development.

Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all

As an Australian lighting manufacturer our strategic goal is to promote sustainable economic growth and to reduce our environmental impact by developing innovative packing solutions reducing waste and the need for repacking, optimising our employment productivity, contributing to decent work for all, while also reducing their environmental impact and fostering positive relationships with local and Indigenous communities.

Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation

Retrofit energy services can once again contribute to achieve this goal by incorporating and replacing legacy lighting with energy-efficient LED technologies, recyclable materials, and reducing the use of hazardous materials. We have invested heavily, over the last year, into R&D to develop new and innovative technologies that will reduce our environmental impact, increase energy efficiency, and improve the durability and lifespan of their products.
Our new 12,000m2 manufacturing, warehousing, research & testing hub has been purpose built to develop innovative products.

Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

Providing energy-efficient lighting solutions for cities and human settlements help reduce energy consumption and lower greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to making cities more sustainable and combatting climate change. Lighting solutions for public spaces, transportation networks, and buildings enhance safety and security.

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

Lowa Lighting’s sustainable economy roadmap empowers us to develop sustainable manufacturing and business patterns, enabling synergies throughout the entire process from initial contact to project delivery.
These include strategic partnerships ensuring minimal usage and waste of raw materials, product design, Industry 4.0 manufacturing but also increasing our warehousing workforce, packaging solutions, achieving accreditations and recycling legacy lighting and hazardous materials like mercury.

Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

We are working towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions associated with our products and operations. Including using renewable energy sources for our facilities, reducing energy consumption during the manufacturing process, and increasing our use of sustainable materials in our products.
